:-)   well, this is apparently not 100% settled out there
I used the Mac specific installer for python 2.5.1, and I didn't get 
anything like that
I have a /usr/bin and /usr/local/bin  which end up calling either
  /System/Library or /Library/Frameworks  pythons

typing `which python` results in the unix-style, not Mac specific, 
paths on my OS X 10.10
I use `which python` to unravel this regularly
`env` clearly shows the PATH contents, on any of my several active 
logins

I was sincerely hoping to stay out of this.. *sigh*
I trust that Chris and William and Howard will get this worked out
I thought that my post would be simple enough to be helpful to the 
casual user, as I aspired to be
