BTW, these Shapefiles had been created as part of the FlightGear Custom
Scenery project effort (http://www.custom-scenery.org/ as well as
http://mapserver.flightgear.org/).

We also have the NIMA VMap0 landmass layer available as Shapefile here:

  ftp://ftp.ihg.uni-duisburg.de/FlightGear/TGShapes/v0_landmass.tar.bz2

So, if you're desperately looking for some (coarse) landuse data
(available at the same location) that exactly matches the coastline,
then VMap0 is for you. The GSHHS coastline is much more accurate, and
having closed polygons might be an advantage, but for its accuracy it
does not match the VMap0 landuse,

	Martin.
