I am using Xcode 3 and just building for the native platform, and I am
not building to /usr/local, everything is built in /Library/OpenOSX/
grass.

Yes, I am compiling GDAL with HDF4 and hdf5 as well, so I will look at
disabling it in HDF - although I did not enable it in HDF4 or hdf5
(maybe it was enabled by default).

Based on Frank's response, HDF seems to be the culprit.

I will post when I have a better idea what's going on.
