Just another note UpdateDisplay should go into the while loop in order
to render the itermediary stages in the sample code, like:

while (ctx-> status != IO_COMPLETE)
   {

     ctx->RasterIO(buffer, options);

     UpdateDisplay(buffer);

      // check has the view updated, is the request cancelled
      if (bCancel || viewChanged)
      {
         update = false;
         ctx -> CancelIO();
         break;
      }
   }
