[gdal-dev] Problem in viewing NITF images created by GDAL_TRANSLATE

Hi all,

 

I used gdal_translate to make a complete copy of a nitf file and it ran
to completion. But the output image file can only be viewed partially on
a IMAGINE Viewer while the whole original image file can be viewed on
the Viewer. I believe that the data is there just it can not be viewed. 

 

I then used gdal_translate to make a subset of the original nitf and it
also ran to completion. And this time the output subset image file can
be viewed by the Viewer.

 

Anyone knows why the entire copied image by gdal_translate can not be
viewed while the subset image (also by gdal_translate) and the original
image can be? Is this a known bug? Thanks in advance. 

 

I used gdalinfo and noticed that the Band 1 Block=6876x1 for the copied
image and 1000x1 for the subset image while it was 1024x1024 for the
original image. Does the block size matter? And is there a way to
control the block size in using gdal_translate so that the problem can
be resolved?

 

Both GDAL 1.5.1 and 1.5.2 have the same viewing problem. I have tried
few other test cases and have the same problem.
