I would also note that the Geotiff driver/libgeotiff don't handle Molleweide 
projection. (In GDAL trunk, the projection is written as an ESRI PE String 
with the full WKT string, so if you only use GDAL trunk, you won't notice any 
problem when reading back the projection)

But this is a different problem than the image having artifacts.
