The GDAL team is pleased to announce the release of GDAL 1.6.2 RC1.

The following issues were addressed in this release:

General:
  * OGR expression parser causes access violations with large  
expressions (#2996)
  * OGR cannot open/handle .DBF files > 2 GB (#3011)
  * crash in cpl_vsil_win32.cpp when compiling as x64 under Windows  
(#3035)
  * create index sql execute problem (#3044)
  * GTiffDataset::FlushCache() cause crashes when used just after  
dataset creation (#3067)
  * GDALDefaultOverviews::BuildOverviews() causes out-of-bounds writes  
for a 1x1 dataset (#3069)
  * gdaladdo crashes on a 16-bit dataset when external overviews are  
requested to have JPEG compression (#3070)
  * Corrupt EXIF info can cause stack buffer overflow in JPEG driver  
(#3078)

GDAL:
  * GenBin driver problems (#2730)
  * Additional dependency to libgdal.so added during linking in gdal/ 
apps (#2970)
  * This NITF Can not be opened (endless loop) with recent GDAL (#3001)
  * This NITF Can not be opened (endless loop) with recent GDAL (#3002)
  * PPM Driver 16bit Support Byte Order Decision Questionable (#3012)
  * GDAL changes projection parameter values (#3017)
  * bad reading of AAIGRID dataset whose last line doesn't have a  
linebreak character (#3022)
  * HDF5 Subdataset Issue (#3024)
  * jp2kak driver can't display this unsigned 16 bit J2K image (#3027)
  * NITF PRJPSB TRE handling wrong for Transverse Mercator (#3029)
  * gdaladdo not producing correct overviews for greyscale+alpha image  
(#3033)
  * GDALLoadRPB/IMDFile fails with path (#3047)
  * Setting stats and histogram to JP2 compressed NITF corrupts the  
aux.xml (#3051)
  * poBand->SetMetadataItem( "source_0", szFilterSourceXML,

  * gdaladdo fails with JPEG YCBCR when interleaving is not specified

  * KML driver painfully slow when reading huge geometries (#3005)
  * PG driver does not recognize 'real' data type (#3006)
  * X-Plane reader: Bezier curves in Pavement and APTLinefeature not  
curved (#3030)

OGR Spatial References:
  * Mercator with scale=1 at non-equatoral latitude handled  
improperly. (#3026)
  * Hotine Oblique Mercator translation to PROJ.4 format looses scale  
factor. (#3032)
  * Equidistant Conic ESRI Morphing Broken (#3086)

Python:
  * OGRFeature.SetField segfault (#3000)

.NET:
  * C# Osr.GetProjectionMethodParameterList / OPTGetParameterList  
Access Violation (#3018)
  * [PATCH - C#] Dataset.ReadRaster()/WriteRaster() doesn't work on  
multi-band datasets (#3073)


If no significant issues are identified, a PSC vote will be called for  
to promote this RC to final on Wednesday or Thursday next week.
