Dear GDAL/OGR users and developers,

Yesterday, Forest Informatics, Inc., a provider of turnkey and custom solutions for forest resource management announced a partnership with credativ, a global open source consulting, service, and support company.

Together, credativ and Forest Informatics will offer introductory and advanced training on geospatial analytics using open source technology such as PostgreSQL, PostGIS, R, and PL/R. The first course of “Open Geospatial University”TM is a three day introductory short course titled "Intro to PostgreSQL with Spatial Analysis Extensions". This offering will teach students the fundamentals of databases using PostgreSQL, geospatial database management using the PostGIS extensions to PostgreSQL, and basic data processing techniques using the PL/R extension which allows stored procedures to be written using R, a popular statistical computing language. As part of the class, we will present techniques to import and export data into PostGIS using the GDAL/OGR tools and briefly cover basic and advanced options. Also, graduates will also receive bundled “Bootstrap Support”TM, to help accelerate them through the initial learning curve when they leave the class.
