[gdal-dev] GDAL/OGR 1.8.0RC1 Release Candidate Prepared

Folks,

I have prepared a release candidate for GDAL/OGR 1.8.0.  The source,
testsuite and documentation can be found at:

   http://download.osgeo.org/gdal/gdal-1.8.0RC1.tar.gz
   http://download.osgeo.org/gdal/gdal180RC1.zip
   http://download.osgeo.org/gdal/gdal180doc.zip
   http://download.osgeo.org/gdal/gdalautotest-1.8.0.tar.gz

I would appreciate broad testing of the release candidate and reporting
problems via Trac tickets:

   http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/

If things seem respectible I will introduce a motion to promote this
release candidate as a final 1.8.0 release in the next day or two.

Note that as part of the 1.8.0 release candidate process I have established
a GDAL/OGR 1.8 stable branch, and tagged the source used for the release
candidate as 1.8.0:

   http://svn.osgeo.org/gdal/branches/1.8
   http://svn.osgeo.org/gdal/tags/1.8.0

Any bug fixes intended for 1.8.x releases, including a possible 1.8.0RC2
need to be ported into the 1.8 stable branch starting now.
