[gdal-dev] how to build java with GDAL

Hi All
       Can anyone guide me in building java with gdal.what are the 
       requirements.do i necessarily need Osgeo4W or without it also 
       one can proceed.(I have gone through the link

      but still i need to know the process as i later want to connect
      the build with Oracle spatial.

       Does the code of ogr2ogr.java from    
     http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/browser/trunk/gdal/swig/java/apps/
        helps in converting oracle spatial to shapefile?
       
      Please help me out.
