It seems they have chosen the option to patch all the packages that are 
using the OF macro.
For GDAL, see : https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=383569

The (small) problem is that vanilla versions of GDAL won't compile on 
Gentoo systems anymore, but it shouldn't affect a lot of people.
