Hi Jukka, and all,
First of all, huge thanks to you Jukka for all your work cleaning up the
list of tickets.
In theory I am supposed to be the maintainer of the MITAB driver, but I
have been inactive for a little while and I apologize for my lack of
responses on the tickets that relate to this driver. I wish I had more
time available, but unfortunately for the time being I am unable to
attend to MITAB tickets, so you should not count on me for those. I hope
to get back to coding someday, but I'm not sure when that day will be.
In the meantime, Even has done a great job in attending to tickets on
which I failed to act (Thanks Even!).
With respect to upstream MITAB, it has become quite out of sync with the
copy that lives in the OGR source tree, to the point that we should
consider upstream as deprecated and the version in OGR should probably
be considered the master from now on. That would solve the question of
tickets that relate to pushing stuff upstream.
I actually wonder if there are still people who rely on the MITAB C API
which was the key feature of upstream standalone MITAB and the reason to
maintain it separate form the whole OGR lib. If those users are
interested, they could either fork the source of this version which is
now at https://github.com/mapgears/mitab or contact a developer to offer
to fund support of the standalone MITAB.
