The packaging maintained by Fedora was recently updated to 2.1.3, you
can rebuild this (and all reverse dependencies) for CentOS:
http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/cgit/rpms/gdal.git
EPEL has GDAL 1.11.4 for CentOS 7 which is only one release behind the
latest 1.11.x.
