Jorge,

the fact that it renders fine with QGIS is that the rendering of labels is 
done by QGIS through its own rendering engine with a PDF output. It then uses 
the GDAL PDF driver to assemble the rendering of the different layers with a 
layer tree, and add the georeferencing. It doesn't use the basic in-built GDAL 
PDF vector rendering capabilities.
