[gdal-dev] GDAL 2.2+ Slower Than 2.1.2

Our TAP7 application (www.softwright.com) has been using GDAL since we rewrote it in C# from VB 6. I just grabbed the binaries from Tamas's build site (https://www.gisinternals.com/release.php).

Most of my CPU cycles are involved in reading millions of samples from raster data files.

I have tried to upgrade from 2.1.2 to 2.3.1 and then 2.4.3 using the Windows x64 binaries. Today I tried the 2.4.4 NuGet package. In all upgrade cases, my application suddenly ran half as fast using the newer versions.

Does anyone have any clue what could have changed between 2.1.2 and 2.3.1 to account for longer raster read times? When I looked at the release notes, nothing jumps out at me.

I am using Visual Studio 2017 and C# on 64-bit Win 10.

Thanks.

-John Reilly.
