[gdal-dev] Maximum writable GDAL raster size (rows x columns and/or filesize in bytes)

Eric,

I would expect the limits to be beyond the capacity of any conceivable 
hard disk. If you've a reproducer (you can possibly use the gdal_create 
utility to create a dummy input file), please file a ticket about that
