The Sentinel2 driver is indeed built-in, but it requires one of the 
JPEG2000 capable drivers to be also available at runtime

You can use for example one of the Docker images at 
https://github.com/OSGeo/gdal/tree/master/docker#images-of-releases to 
convert a Sentinel2 dataset to something more convenient
