Hi
S57 is a vector format so you need to use ogr
Check that
ogrinfo --formats
reports:
S57 -vector- (rw+v): IHO S-57 (ENC)

Not sure what you mean by “support files”. The command line tool returns:
ERROR 4: `US5LA26M.000' not recognized as a supported file format.
gdalinfo failed - unable to open 'US5LA26M.000

What errors do you get with the command line tool?
