[gdal-dev] Different Metadata Reported When Using Different Versions of GDAL

While performing a GDAL upgrade from version 1.10.0 to 3.4.2 I've noticed some metadata for a few file formats not being produced with the newer version of GDAL. For simplicity's sake, this email will only focus on one of the file formats.

The dataset that I tested with can be downloaded from search.earthdata.nasa.gov from the collection labeled "ASTER Level 1 precision terrain corrected registered at-sensor radiance V003". The specific file I used was AST_L1T_00308172024214434_20240819163247_3432525.hdf with a date of 2024-08-17. It seems new data is added to this collection frequently, however, testing with multiple files from that collection resulted in the same missing metadata. Running (gdalinfo AST_L1T_00308172024214434_20240819163247_3432525.hdf) with version 1.10 there is metadata labeled "XDIM" and "YDIM" that is reported each with a value of "11". However running with version 3.2.4 this metadata is not reported.

Both versions of gdalinfo report they are using "Driver: HDF4/Hierarchical Data Format Release 4". Is it possible to extract this missing metadata using GDAL 3.2.4?
