Subject: Introduction - Aspiring Contributor to GDAL

Hi everyone,

I’m Twisha Mishra, a computer science undergraduate student from India. I
recently joined the GDAL mailing list to start learning and contributing to
open-source geospatial software, especially with the goal of applying for
GSoC 2026 under OSGeo.

I’m currently strengthening my fundamentals in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript,
and I’m also learning Python to better understand GDAL’s ecosystem. My
focus this month is to understand GIS concepts and explore how GDAL works
with raster and vector data.

I’m completely new to GIS and open-source, but I’m excited to learn, follow
discussions here, and hopefully start contributing soon. Any
beginner-friendly guidance or suggestions on where to start exploring
issues or documentation would be greatly appreciated.
