[Geodata] River locks and waterfalls ?

Does anyone know a reliable (and precise) source of locations of
river locks and waterfalls ?

FlightGear's Scenery creation tools currently put connected water
bodies at the same elevation, therefore the whole GreatLakes area is
being positioned at sea level ....  :-)
This could be fixed if such barriers are known.
