+1 Suchith.

Related to the service component: In the "Smart City" grant proposal I am
working on right now in support of our network, I am planning on drawing
from a book my colleague Tom Dedeurwaerdere in Belgium recently published,
called "Sustainability Science for Strong Sustainability" [1]. In it, he
talks about "Transdisciplinary" research partnerships and the issue of
trying to close the gap between academic research and what is really needed
in the practicing world -- especially in urgent environmental or social
matters where quick advances are needed. I think one of the pillars of our
network should be along these lines, trying to create Geospatial research
and education following a 'Commons-based Peer Production' model [2] across
academia and the public, private and nonprofit sectors.

Cheers,
Charlie
