Thanks for this info. There is also RDA presentation by Mark Parsons (RDA) for the Open Research Data conference next week for those of you who are planning to attend.

The opening of research data is – next to the open publishing of scientific papers – a central aspect of Open Science. Research data is recognized as one of the key outputs of the scientific process. Properly managed data is a valuable resource for scientists, who can then freely use, re-use and combine it. Open data benefit the society as a whole, enabling novel forms of scientific inquiry and non-scientific data usage, facilitating engagement in citizen science, and accelerating economical development.

The conference will take place in Warsaw, Poland, on May 28–29, 2015. It is organized by the Open Science Platform — an initiative of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling at the University of Warsaw.

Last year, they also organised the “Opening Science to Meet Future Challenges”  conference bringing together key people where i presented our ideas on Open Geospatial Science. Details and recordings are at

Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to inform you that a regional Research Data Alliance (RDA) workshop will take place on 25 June 2015 in Athens, Greece, with the presence of its Secretary General, Mark Parsons, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA. RDA builds the social and technical bridges that enable open sharing of data across technologies, disciplines, and countries. The main objective of the RDA regional workshop is on one hand to present the RDA initiative, its main activities and working groups along with their initial outputs and on the other hand to investigate the engagement of groups from South Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean and Caucasus regions in RDA.
The workshop will take place at the Divani Caravel hotel<http://divanicaravelhotel.com/map.html> and will be a full day event (9am-5pm most probably). It will include the following sessions:
•         About RDA, covering RDA activities, working groups and initial outputs - keynote speech by Mark Parsons;
•         Regional Involvement in RDA, highlighting the involvement of regional experts in RDA Working and Interest Groups;
•         Other (non-RDA) data management/big data activities in the region with interest for RDA, such as National Digital Infrastructures or other related Research Infrastructures or e-Infrastructures;
•         Panel: Development of national/regional RDA activities, where the creation of national/regional RDA initiatives will be discussed.
Note that for the second and third sessions, we would like to ask data experts, especially outside Greece, with active participation in RDA Working/Interest Groups or in an another activity closely related to come forward with short proposals for presentations including a short abstract and a short CV (1-2 paragraphs each) . The deadline for submitting your interest is the 2nd of June 2015.
