Hi Shaowen,

I'm not in a position to pitch to the NSF as:

* I'm Australian, not from the US

* I'm not an academic

However, I have material which I'm very hopeful someone else might want to make use of to justify why a pitch should be for Open Source GIS. I'd be happy to work with someone doing such a pitch to customise their material.

Here is some source material:

* Pitch to the UN to justify using Open Source for GIS: https://docs.google.com/document/d/19Di-WxImfPq5oF2jeBblxNjY0JYJoXegLc5jaTPjufM/edit#<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__docs.google.com_document_d_19Di-2DWxImfPq5oF2jeBblxNjY0JYJoXegLc5jaTPjufM_edit-23&d=DwMFAw&c=8hUWFZcy2Z-Za5rBPlktOQ&r=YjxOBMQgcaifzkYDsExgQYt_yTdbFp29oAhFm7bM3-I&m=MaMX-FvKy9fD1eiZlOLBvea-g6kMc3LC6_DIiag4DQw&s=RuYVNIZKeOjhFG2ApTLNg18K5T-NOU12ec29RbbvnPo&e=>

A suite of community workshops will be convened to design the GSI. The first workshop aims to bring together thought leaders from diverse science communities to gain in-depth understanding of geospatial software challenges and opportunities with regard to requirements for the GSI by various science communities.

We are inviting position papers due on December 21, 2017, and look forward to your submissions. Your help for spreading the word of the attached call for position papers is greatly appreciated.

Thanks & best,
