We use apache's built in tools for handling encryption over the wire (SSL) and authentication/authorization. This requires some care when you set it up so you don't inadvertently allow access to your data through an unintended path though.

If you are interested in protecting the attributes look at the gml_include_items metadata tag in Mapserver.

Mark,

The County demo has an example of both a WMS and WFS services as example
layers. That should give you an idea how to do it. As far as
protecting it your only options are to restrict by IP address or to put
a wrapper around the request, which would take some new programming.

Subject: [Geomoose-users] Web Map Service, Web Feature Service

Has anyone had success using Geomoose / Mapserver as a WMS or WFS?

If we use it as a feature service is there anyway to password protect
data?
