[Geomoose-users] Postgis layer - point out

Brent,

I stand corrected. I was under the impression that the question was related to editing of ad-hoc layers, but maybe I was not reading the messages well enough.

The trigger route could be used as you suggested though to do the conversions. But I was mostly looking at it from the query side, once the data was in POSTGIS, you can convert coordinate output on the fly when pulling from POSTGIS (under another layer name perhaps) , of course with WMS it would all need to be set up ahead of time as an option for output.

Bobb,

As I recall, the connection with TinyOWS is thru tables (in the , not SQL statements as with Mapserver's map file. TinyOWS forms the SQL statements to do SELECT, UPDATE, and INSERT so as far as I know, using views or functions is not possible. Maybe some hacks with Postgres triggers may be possible if you want to convert coords in insert/update...

Brent (and others),

The reprojection aspects should be possible through POSTGIS as well, either as a DB Function and/or via the SQL calls., especially with the somewhat ad-hoc nature to setting up any editing functionality. I'm in the need in the near future to look at this type of editing as well, so maybe I'll be able to comment further down the road some.

Then you need to use the WFS-T protocol (using GeoServer or TinyOWS). TinyOWS is a WFS-T server now available as an Application through MS4W (http://www.maptools.org/ms4w/index.phtml?page=downloads.html) and possibly other packages such as OSGeo4w.

While I did some experimenting with TinyOWS and pre-release GeoMoose 2.6 I wasn't able to finish (I may get back to it soon). In theory, as long as you store your data in the same coordinate system as your map display, it should work.

Thank you Brent.
But I need editing capabilities on the postgis layer: is it possible in this way (with WMS protocol)?

Configure Mapserver to connect to the PostGIS database and use Mapserver's WMS protocol to communicate with GeoMoose.

I want to describe in a better way my previous question:
how can I build up a posgis layer in GeoMOOSE WITHOUT using GEOSERVER?

Thank you.
