[GeoNode-users] how to make the local geonode accessible on the world wide web

Hi Elisa,

if I´m understanding your setup now looks like this.

In your lan you have a virtual machine or server which
after booting always gets the same static ip from your router.
Further geonode is configured to „accept“ this adress and
can be reached by other computer with it´s ip: F.e.

The next steps would be that you:

- open the ports in your router setup: 80, 8080
- forward needed ports to the geonode device (above descriped as

Aftzer that check what´s your ip: https://www.whatismyip.com/ <https://www.whatismyip.com/>
If you did everything correct with your port forwarding (in theory)
you should be able to visit http://YOUR_IP in your Browser and see geonode.
(> unsure maybe you have to accept the public IP for geonode as well)

As a last step, depending on your provider you have a static or dynamic
ip. Dynamic means your IP will change (often during the night). In other
words visiting your public IP from above will not work anymore by tomorrow.
You can work around this with a service like https://www.duckdns.org/ <https://www.duckdns.org/>.
With this you can inform duckdns (done f.e. with a batch script) about your
changed IP, and visit your local setup with the DNS duckdns provides you.

As said, depending on your local networks more configuration is needed.
F.e. I do not know if you run a firewal, router, switches etc. which couls sit between
your geonde and the www world ;)

Let me know if this helps,

good luck also with the upstream speed ;),
