Yes Google no longer supports their browser-based 3D viewer. I thought the button had been removed in Geonode 2.6:
https://github.com/GeoNode/geonode/issues/2921

Here’s how I removed the button from map view in 2.4:
https://github.com/geosolutions-it/geonode/commit/d6aebeafb265ec9acb15ad27b31f192964171b52

But just realised it’s still in the embedded map viewer in the layer page…

Subject: [GeoNode-users] can't switch to 3D viewer

Hi all !
Running GeoNode 2.6 on Ubuntu 16.04.
I would like to know if the 3D viewer button is supposed to work when creating a map ?
I've seen we need to add a google API key in the local_settings file, or that it requires a certain version of the Google Earth plugin,
but i've also seen people writing about deleting that option because it'd be broken, though it's still present in the new 2.6 version.
Should I try to get a key or is it useless ?
if it does works, is it the Google Static Maps API I need ? there are several -> https://console.developers.google.com/apis/library
or what version of google earth should I install on my machine ?
Thanks, Elisa
