[GeoNode-users] Sitrep: Shapefile .zip including metadata

Based on these two issues:

could someone clarify the present state of downloading a shapefile .zip? By
default, in recent GeoNode releases, does the zip include the metadata xml?
If not, is there an accepted best approach to enabling this feature, even
if it isn't natively supported?
