Dear GeoNode users and developers
Earlier today I sent a pull request [1] vs the 2.7.x GeoNode branch (to
become GeoNode 2.8.1), which implements this GNIP [2]. This pull request
introduce the Harvard WorldMap contribute application in GeoNode.
You can have a full list of the features introduced from the application at
[2]. In brief this application introduce a new client, based on an improved
version of the GeoExplorer default client, with additional features such as:
* layer categories in table of contents
* layer graduated style editor
* a find place widget and layers gazetteer
* feature search
* map revisions
* URL permalink for maps
* layer search with Hypermap Registry (optional)
The application is optional and does not introduce any change in existing
GeoNode tables. If enabled, it will create a few new tables in GeoNode
database, which are needed in order for the application to work. You must
use PostgreSQL to use this application, and PostgreSQL will require the
PostGIS and dblink extensions.
The GNIP implementation is based on current GeoNode WorldMap source code
[3], and contains code committed by a number of GeoNode developers:
* Matt Bertrand
* Paolo Corti
* Wayner Barrios
* Jorge Martínez Gómez
* Lennin Suescun
* 刘尧 aka Lanni
If there is consensus, this application will be merged in GeoNode source
code as a contribute module.
Thanks
Paolo
