Dear Francesco,
We have installed Oracle Java jre inside Geoserver container:
apt install python-software-properties
add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
apt update
apt install oracle-java8-installer
update-alternatives --config java
choose path: /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle/jre/bin/java
We saw that in Geoserver container JAVA_HOME is /docker-java-home/jre
so we did:
mv /docker-java-home/jre /docker-java-home/jre_orig
cp /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle/jre /docker-java-home
restart docker stack.
Now Geoserver -> Server Status:
JVM Version Oracle Corporation: 1.8.0_181 (OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM)
:-)
Should we try to install newer version Oracle JRE9/10 ?

Dear Francesco,
No, we haven't faced any unexpecting behavior from deployment.
From inside geoserver container we have done:
apt install python-software-properties
add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
apt update
apt install oracle-java8-installer
update-alternatives --config java
choose path: /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle/jre/bin/java
restart geonode stack.
Kind regards,
Ana Boljević

Dear Ana,
JVM is supposed to be JRE8 as you can see here https://github.com/GeoNode/geoserver-docker/blob/master/Dockerfile#L1
So the message from the server status is correct, actually I don't know why you are getting that output from inside the container. Let me investigate more, anyway are you facing any wrong behavior from your deployment?
Francesco

Dear Geonode community,
We have made fresh Geonode installation on docker (master branch), version 2.10rc4.
In Geoserver container, we have made Oracle Java JDK 9 installation. Inside Geoserver container, output of command "java -version" is:
root at 8d03005bc67f:/usr/local/tomcat/tmp# java -version
java version "9.0.4"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 9.0.4+11)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 9.0.4+11, mixed mode)
But in the Geoserver -> Server Status page (see attachment):
JVM Version: Oracle Corporation: 1.8.0_181 (OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM).
Does anyone know how to help? Thanks in advance ☺
