Why not ?
OSGeo is a non-profit organization walking on the legs of its members.
I find it perfectly acceptable to stimulate partecipation.

Of course self-hosted means more responsibility in maintainance (either
in form of dedicated time or money). I've no intention to hide that.

Note that the Gogs service and the associated Drone deploys have been
setup by myself in my own time, as a volunteer. No OSGeo budget was
used for that. Can it be sustainable in the long run ? It depends on
how many more people will want to help keeping the service going. As
I'd really like for that service to continue, I campaign for growing
the volunteers base. I think this is perfectably acceptable.
