Yes, the standard autoconf/automake build can and will continue to work just fine. There are really just two scenarios when you should want to use the CMake configuration -- first, you want CMake-generated MSVC (or other) project files, or second, you want dynamically-generated source-emebedded (INCODE) support. The audience for both of these is presumably tiny.
