xgdisplay problems

got this message running xgdisplay:
 xgdisplay
XGRASS DISPLAY LIB ERROR: Not enough colors available. Make more available before strating again.

Found that in src/xgrass/libes/Xgd/vectcolor.c this message can be
printed. It is referencing a variable that only seems to be set to
-1 in initxgd.c. The variable is __XGDPrivateCells. Is this a bug?
Should it be referencing __XGDPrivateCellsLeft instead. Or is there
some configuration error that we have made or some Iris bug we need
to work around to get xgdisplay to work properly?

Thanks for any help
