Hi Markus!

I do not now if this is any help but the following environment variables are defined in Mac OS X:

HOSTTYPE=macintosh
VENDOR=apple
OSTYPE=macos
MACHTYPE=powerpc

Maybe you could check for  $OSTYPE??
