Thats unfortunate, as the 1.1.1 distribution GPF's all the time!  Maybe I'd
better stick to binary distributions.

The XDR problem turned out to be Gmakefiles which did not use the XDRLIB
macro.

Unfortunately g.help is still hanging, presumably not a TERM problem then.
