Hi,
a follow-up on the recent meeting (I didn't have time yet to
prepare nice internet pages).
An urgent request is to restructure the libraries. Especially
for Radim and potential further developers (=advances users)
we need to provide a minimum set of GRASS functionality to
test and run the new vector format in a working environment.
Radim wrote some scripts to link the new vector into the
old code, but that is, according to him, only a temporary
solution.
In my opinion we shall start to re-design the file/functions
locations into a new set of directories. this is related to
the proposed new directory structure: The new directory structure
shall enable us to easily extract a miminum-GRASS ("Core-GRASS")
from the existing code. Like that we may run GRASS even on a handheld
or whatever.
Second point is to put the input/output routines separately
in a directory similar to the "libgrass" to allow other software
packages to directly read/write GRASS locations. Maybe we can
look at this existing library and see which functions are
related. The "libgrass" has been developed by Frank Warmerdam
and is available in CVS (/libgrass).
Best regards
Markus
