This is consistent, but is it necessarily useful? Specifically, does
the presence of the date serve any useful purpose? The presence of the
date in the tag makes it very hard to predict/remember the name of the
tag.

Without the date, it would be quite easy to remember how to checkout
the branch for a given release branch, for example:

	cvs -r releasebranch_5_0_0

One might even go so far as to strip it down to branch_5_0_0, (which
would still preserve room in the tag namespace for a later
release_5_0_0 tag along that branch).
