Markus, I'd be interested in this. Perhaps you could commit it into
CVS somewhere.

Other options are to compile GRASS natively on an iPAQ or using a
cross-compiler, (which I have done successfully for very large portions
of GRASS). I have both options readily available here, so I can
compile up this lightweight GRASS distribution and contribute it to
the Familiar Linux distribution for easy installation on handhelds.
