[GRASS5] GRASS -- general info required

Hello ..

Can anayone advise me of any other open source gis which I can compare to 
GRASS GIS and
which support similar functionalities of GISs

On proprietary software I have found a couple like ESRI SDE like ArcInfo, 
ArcView and Oracle Spatial but I am interested to know more open SOurce GISs
