[GRASS5] r.what

Hello,
A silly question: does r.what work with x,y coordinates ? We just tried a 
r.what in such a map, and the xs seem really strange (some of the values have 
a * character). FYI, the top left corner of our maps is not 0,0, but 
700.5,1000.5...
Any hint welcome !
