Dear developers,
Markus and i have developed a new version of the r.in.onearth shell script.
Now it is now possible to download and import images from the NASA WMS server http://wms.jpl.nasa.gov/
into every (hopefully) location of grass!
Since now, not every NASA WMS service is supported. The following datasets are available via r.in.onearth:
* WMS Global Mosaic, a high resolution global image mosaic of the
earth, produced from more than 8200 individual Landsat7 scenes.
* 30m SRTM Reflectance Image.
* Composite of data produced by the MODIS Rapid Response System,
from data collected by the MODIS/Terra (default: previous day).
* Composite of data produced by the MODIS Rapid Response System,
from data collected by the MODIS/Aqua (default: previous day).
* Blue Marble Next Generation, A MODIS-derived 500m true color
earth data set including seasonal dynamics.
You will need the newest version of g.region, located in grass6.1-cvs since 2 days (thanks to Markus),
to run r.in.onearth.
If you import data with r.in.onearth into a non-LatLong location, a bounding box will be calculated
which covers the current visible window. The images will be downloaded with the size and resolution
of the current location. But there is a 4096 col limit by the server.
This pice of software is available at my homepage:

Enjoy :D
Best regards
Soeren
