Yes, the Rosetta translation is probably slowing it down some.  Not a  
big issue when coming from a PPC Mac, since those processors  
generally top out at slower speeds than the Intel Macs, but coming  
from another Intel-native OS you might notice the Rosetta slowdown.

Not really trying to squeeze in on Lorenzo's work (well, maybe a tiny  
bit ^_^), but how about trying my Universal OSX GRASS package?  It's  
pretty solid now, and it would be nice to get more feedback on it.  I  
just uploaded an update this morning to take care of a couple startup  
issues.
