subprocess should be part of the python package: 
    http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?word=%2Fusr%2Flib%2Fpython2.4%2Fsubprocess.py&searchmode=searchfiles&case=insensitive&version=stable&arch=i386
