There are plans to do this. But more than one year of time will be 
needed to rewrite nviz using the paraview approach.
And if VTK is used (which i stronlgy recommend), a GRASS
abstraction layer must be implemented in C++.
And i hope Radek can point me some direction how to build such a thing 
in an intelliegtn way. :)
I favor the approach to code some kind of grass
data server which can plug  into paraview3, supporting tile read and 
parallel data access. Maybe the VTK lib have to be extended
to support LatLong and other projections, im not sure about this.

For now the *.out.vtk modules will do the job. ;)
