[GRASS-dev] Can't Read NLCD 2001 Erdas imagine files

I tried to read  a 2001 NLCD  .img files located at
http://edcftp.cr.usgs.gov/pub/data/landcover/nlcd2001/superzones/

Here's what happened:

 r.in.gdal  in=landcover13_011007_0fix.img out=zn13
ERROR 4: `landcover13_011007_0fix.img' not recognised as a supported 
file format

I thought gdal supported this format?
