#73: r.out.gdal tiff output does not work
--------------------------+-------------------------------------------------
  Reporter: helena | Owner: grass-dev at lists.osgeo.org
      Type: defect | Status: new
  Priority: critical | Milestone: 6.4.0
 Component: Raster | Version: svn-trunk
Resolution: | Keywords: r.out.gdal, tiff
  Platform: Unspecified | Cpu: Unspecified
--------------------------+-------------------------------------------------
Comment (by helena):

as for me - I did not file it as critical, because I thought it was
 partially
problem on my side (not using the correct options) - it was upgraded to
 critical later.

I think we just need to keep around r.out.arc, r.out.tiff in case the
 software
that you are trying to import the data to does not like the r.out.gdal
 geotiff
as we cannot really solve other software issues with geotiff.
I also agree that the warning about possible loss of data with badly
 chosen NULL
as suggested by Moritz should take care of the null problem.

All I really tried to do was convert the nc_spm raster data into something
 readable
by other software tools and r.out.gdal worked but some rasters were not
 readable
or came out black so it required change in color table etc. (e.g., in
 ArcGIS, gimp).
We ended up using r.out.arc - and lost the color tables and projection
info but otherwise it worked fine.
I haven't tried the very latest version of r.out.gdal though.
