 (to be honest I'm not really against the new -z flag at all, I'm just a
 bit frustrated about any new changes to the 6.4.0 branch when we should be
 deep in release-mode and I'm venting it here)


 maybe have the wxGUI builder check to see if layer= is manadatory before
 deciding to do a dropdown list of valid layers?
