fwiw it is possible to do symlinks in svn, or "external" links
if the leap is to another svn repo. (on MS Windows checkouts the
symlink simply gets treated as a copy)

It's a good idea to keep a README there now at least, and maybe
the code too, then once 6.4.3 is released make sure any cloned
code gets removed to avoid confusion.
