versions and introduced a bug in the process.

 This happens.

However, the monitor concept is essential also for GRASS 7. At least for
power users who stick to the command line. It is sad enough that the fast
x0 monitor from GRASS 6 hasn't been replaced with a fast alternative.

The current behaviour of d.* to silently write into a PNG file is
unhelpful. At least a message about the newly generated/modified file
should be generated, otherwise the d.* behaviour remains obscure.
